From the New Yorker:

Getting Sherlock Holmes Right Onscreen

" The BBC series, a string of three ninety-minute films per season, achieves in modern dress what the Ritchie film attempts in fancy Edwardian costume."

--> I think he means Victorian costume.

" The Mind Palace.” In a way, half the series is set in Holmes’s mind palace... “the Heart Palace.”

--> I don't get that as the "Mind Palace" is a reference the "method of loci" and saying that its set in Holmes's mind palace may be a play on words, but does not make sense. While the comment about the “the Heart Palace,” is again a play on words but meaningless.

Great Maalot Classifieds post

Anyone selling a desk? ()

I haven't done any work inmonths and I blame it solely on not having a desk on which to do it. If anyone can extricate me from my deep misery, I'd be willing to compensate you commensurate with the desk's value and the scent of your desperation. Thanks

The problem, of course, is that the Shomer Emunim and their like (and break-offs such as the various toldos, etc) practice a version of Yiddishkeit that constantly is trying to “go back” to something that never was and rightfully so never was.  One cannot “take everything to its rightfully conclusion” as they do, as then you are left with something that may appear to be Yiddishkeit and claim to be the “best Yiddishkeit” but is defiantly not Jewish at all; as we see (and our hearts cry) in this case.
